Operational Leadersihp Expands Across Grand Rapids' Premier Entertainment Venues

Todd Johnson Promoted to Assistant General Manager as Operations Team Continues to Grow

As two new entertainment venues are added to Grand Rapids’ portfolio, the city’s live events landscape is further strengthened by the addition of exceptional operational leadership. Van Andel Arena, DeVos Performance Hall, DeVos Place, Acrisure Amphitheater (opening May 2026), and Amway Stadium (opening Spring 2027), managed by Legends Global, premier partner to the world's greatest live events, venues, and brands, have expanded the leadership structure to support operations across existing and future facilities.

Announced today was the promotion of Todd Johnson to assistant general manager, recognizing his leadership and operational impact across the Grand Rapids venue portfolio. In his new role, Johnson will provide strategic leadership across venue operations and security, supporting large-scale event execution, operational readiness, and guest experience initiatives. He will continue to oversee day-to-day and event operations while contributing to long-term planning and growth across Grand Rapids’ Legends Global-managed venues, including pre-opening planning for the two new venues.

Johnson brings a proven background in venue operations, having supported Legends Global and its Grand Rapids venues through leadership roles in operations, event services, and security. Todd has also provided support to other venues throughout the Legends Global portfolio, assisting with event operations, facility management, and venue opening initiatives.

Prior to joining Legends Global, Johnson served as an assistant to the general manager at Mile High Stadium in Denver, Colorado—then home to the NFL’s Denver Broncos, MLB’s Colorado Rockies and the APSL’s Colorado Foxes. His experience in major live event and professional sports operations, combined with over 25 years in Grand Rapids, highlights his suitability for this new leadership role.

“Todd’s depth of experience, institutional knowledge, and steady leadership have had a lasting impact on our venues and our teams,” said Richard MacKeigan, general manager of the Grand Rapids facilities for Legends Global. “His promotion to assistant general manager reflects the trust he has earned and the value he brings to our venues.”

“Growing our operations department is a key part of preparing for what’s ahead,” said Johnson. “Building strong teams now ensures we’re prepared to deliver exceptional events and guest experiences across all of our facilities.”

Along with Johnson’s promotion, Chris Grinnell has been hired as assistant operations manager for Van Andel Arena and Acrisure Amphitheater. Grinnell has supported venue operations at Van Andel Arena for the past 12 years and brings extensive hands-on experience in event operations, staffing, and facility readiness. In his new role, he will support operational planning and execution for both the existing arena and the upcoming amphitheater.

In addition, D’Andre Pryor has joined the Grand Rapids team as operations manager at DeVos Performance Hall, bringing a strong leadership approach and a commitment to operational excellence, supporting the continued development of event operations, staff coordination, and guest experience. His most recent professional experience includes serving as a facilities supervisor for the YMCA (Mary Free Bed), highlighting his experienced leadership in facility and operations management.
