Detroit Red Wings legend Larry Murphy will coach a team of professional ice hockey players in 3ICE, the exhilarating, fast-paced, family-affordable, three-on-three professional North American ice hockey league, when it takes center ice at Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, MI, on Wednesday, July 12, beginning at 7PM.

Featuring the Best Part of Hockey: Overtime All-the-Time, 3ICE features a three-on-three, bracket style, single elimination series of games featuring two, eight-minute periods with a running clock. 3ICE is uniquely designed to give hockey fans the ability to watch the speed, skill and excitement they’ve grown to love since the three-on-three overtime concept was introduced in 2015.

Four players with ties to Michigan will be a part of 3ICE in Grand Rapids, including Brandon Halverson, a Traverse City, MI, native; Colton Hargrove who played at Western Michigan; Mark Auk, who played at Michigan Tech; and Jacob Theut, a native of Washington, MI.

Team Murphy, featuring Hank Crone (f), Matt Register (d), Colton Hargrove (f), Mark Auk (d), Derek Barach (f), Max Gerlach (f), and Eamon McAdam (g), will face off against Team LeClair, coached by Stanley Cup Champion John LeClair, comprised of Brandon Hawkins (f), Ian McCoshen (d), Brayden Watts (f), Colton Saucerman (d), Colin Theisen (f), Tim Coffman (f), and Max Milosek (g).

The other first round match up features Team Fuhr, coached by Stanley Cup Champion Grant Fuhr, featuring Jacob Theut (g), Jake Newton (d), Jack Combs (f), Mitch Fossier (f), John Schiavo (f), Landon Smith (f), and Zack Kamrass (d), against Team Johnston, coached by hockey legend Eddie Johnston, Sr., comprised of Chad Costello (f), Bobby Farnham (f), Brandon Halverson (g), Matt Lundin (d), Cody Sylvester (f), Eddie Matsushima (f), and Trevor Gooch (f).

The winners of the two first round games will compete in the finals with the other two teams facing off in a consolation game.

“We offer family affordable, entertaining hockey featuring professional hockey players from literally every top league in the world competing in a format featuring the most exciting part of the sport – three-on-three,” said EJ Johnston, Jr., founder, 3ICE. “In addition to the high-paced, non-stop, end-to-end action, we have some new and exciting fan-engaging experiences planned in each city and we look forward to bringing 3ICE to Hershey, Pittsburgh, Clarksville, Philadelphia, Newark, Boston, and Grand Rapids this summer.”

Each 3ICE team is coached by a former NHL All-Star Stanley Cup Champion or Hockey Hall of Fame member, which also include Hall of Famer and Stanley Cup Champion Ray Bourque, Stanley Cup Champion Joey Mullen, Craig Patrick, and Guy Carbonneau.

Johnston, at 87 years of age, becomes the second oldest coach in professional sports behind Connie Mack who last coached at 88 years of age.
